After the great fun we had at Da Vinci's Workshop followed by the Skin Burn, we are now looking ahead to our next event. We've come up with a theme and dates, and we will continue to plan in the coming weeks.
Here are the details as we know them now:
EVENT THEME: Fire Moon The first New Moon of 2017 will be on the 27th of January, which coincides with the Chinese New Year on the 28th, bringing in the Year of the Fire Rooster.
This ignited (pun intended) all sorts of wonderful ideas in the minds of the Burners present at this week's planning meeting, the pairing of the moon on fire and the fire rooster, the new year, a new beginning....I'll bet you feel a touch of the same excitement, yes? We hope so!
There's been a lot of fun conjecture at the last meeting: "Hmmm, what shall we burn..."
EVENT DATE: January 27-29, 2017 The event itself will run through that weekend, with builds being left up for the following week. Opening time on the 27th - up for discussion. We'll likely do a burn as is our custom, on Sunday the 29th (that can also be decided in a future planning meeting). GTFO deadline will be Saturday 4 February 2017, 11:00pm SLT (23:00 SLT).
We are talking about passing out burn kits during the build period, to allow those who come to build on plots to script their builds to burn on GTFO day. Perhaps we'll have builders schedule their burn times to let people know when to come and watch. That can be decided in further planning.
LOCATION: BURN2 on Deep Hole As usual we will have the Deep Hole sim, plots to build on will be free. We have not yet determined number of available plots, their sizes or the prim/LI limits for plots. That will be determined in planning later.
HELP NEEDED! We are looking at forming up teams, we seek volunteers to help in various roles. If you've got some experience with certain things, we'd love to have you on board. Some of the teams we'd like to see:
Burn Build - lead (co-leads?), builders, scripter(s) -- This team will build and script to burn, the Burn object that the planning team and Burn team agree to burn
Stage Build - lead, builders, scripter(s) -- This team will build the stage to the theme of this event
Performance - lead (co-leads?), stage hosts -- This team will schedule DJs and live performers, utilising the stage that will be built for the event (unless there is some special need)
Plot Builders Liaison - lead or co-leads -- This team will work with Huntress Catteneo in assigning builders to plots, assisting builders with questions and other details related to plot builds
Greeters - If you're already in the BURN2 Community Volunteers group, awesome! Contact Freia Guillaume if interested in greeting. If you are not in the group already, let Freia know you are interested in helping to greet!
Communications - help get the word out about the next event when we start to promote it, especially on social media. Contact iSkye Silverweb if interested.
Builders/Artists - YOU are important too. There's no "us" without "u"!! Get ready to sign up and start building when plots are ready, probably early January.
BURN2 PLANNING COMMITTEE MEETINGS MEET WEEKLY
Every Thursday night at 9:00pm SLT (21.00 SLT) on Deep Hole sim, on the yard next to the HQ, across from the Burniversity classroom. Come join us!
If you cannot attend the meeting, drop a notecard on iSkye Silverweb inworld and tell of your interest. You'll be there in spirit if not in pixels!
REMINDER - A Quick Favour Please! If you were at Da Vinci's Workshop in October, please take a few minutes to fill in the SHORT survey. It's just 4 or 5 questions, and we could use your feedback to help improve for the next event!
In the same way that all events must come to an end, our annual Octoburn event called "Da Vinci's Workshop" is now closed, and our Skin Burn decompression event is also done. The playa is restored to its usual dusty condition.
We hope you attended and enjoyed Da Vinci's Workshop, and now we ask for your help to improve future events.
We have a short post-event survey to get your feedback. Please find the survey at this link:
Da Vinci's Workshop was SO MUCH FUN, the whole week of the Burn and it's not over yet!
When? SATURDAY, 29th October 2016 Times? 12pm SLT (12 Noon) and 6pm SLT (18.00 - yes, we will do it twice) Where? CLOSED
WHAT IS SKIN BURN? Glad You Asked! Skin Burn is a BURN2 decompression event, an encore Burning of the Man in a low lag environment.
WHY do we do this? During the weeklong annual Burn event, the sims can get pretty laggy, so some Burners don't get to see the Man Burn quite so well. Thus we have an encore Burn with lower lag for everybody.
HOW do we do it? We STRIP - down to our skins! We detach, we let go of our hair, our shoes, jewelry, even HUDs! We get creative with our skins - let out the artist in us and paint ourselves BEAUTIFUL!
For a more glorious Burn for you and everyone around you, let go of those attachments to see the Burn in all its particle-y, fiery glory.
CHECK-IN You will go through a check-in process for the Burn. There are two things we check for: script weight, and avatar complexity.
We will have free skins available for those who want them, and checkers to help you detach and get ready to go to the playa.
Maximum Script Weight
This counts the number of scripts you are wearing. The goal is 1 or 0 scripts. Less is always better, it dramatically cuts down on lag for everyone. There are exceptions for certain avatars (petites, tinies, certain mesh avatars), but the more scripts you can remove, the better for EVERYONE!
While we can't set a specific complexity level as a hard limit, we do recommend and WE WILL HELP with the following:
Get your avatar complexity down as low as possible. This means removing non-essential items from your avatar (non-body parts, attachments, mesh/sculpted items, hair, jewelry, shoes, toys, etc.). It does NOT mean you have to take off the avatar you wear every day and go to a classic avatar. If you are normally a Tiny, you will be able to remain a Tiny.
Detach all attached scripted items and HUDs even AOs, so your script weight is 0 or 1. Again, there are exceptions for certain avatars (petites, tinies, certain mesh avatars). The more scripts you can remove, the better for EVERYONE!
That said, there are some workarounds for those who do not want to be nude...
System layer clothing does NOT affect avatar complexity or script weight - so you don't have to be naked! And, you will still be a nice, skinny 1000 complexity with your classic avatar!
Appliers for mesh bodies work similarly to system clothing, so your mesh avatar won't have to be naked either.
The lower lag we get, the better the Burn will be for all!
THEN WHAT? Then you get invited into the special BURN2 SKIN BURN group and teleport to the playa. Everybody goes through check-in.
Check-in opens 2 hours before, and closes 10 minutes before, the Burn starts - the Check-in team want to see the Burn, too!
DON'T FORGET - SKIN BURN SATURDAY 29 OCTOBER 2016 12:00PM SLT (12 Noon) and 6:00PM SLT (18.00)
Check-in Landmark TBA on Saturday, opens at 10am SLT for the 12pm Burn, then again at 4pm SLT for the 6pm Burn.
Here's a last thought for you. How many of the Ten Principles do we put into practice here? (Psssst - all of them!):
RADICAL INCLUSION - including more of our fellow Burners in the event with lower lag!
RADICAL SELF-RELIANCE - finding and using the creativity within ourselves to benefit ourselves and others
RADICAL SELF-EXPRESSION - go wild with your skin and system clothing/appliers!
COMMUNAL EFFORT - we are all in this together and we can have FUN doing it together!
CIVIC RESPONSIBILITY - being considerate of our fellow Burners.
PARTICIPATION - be a part of the Skin Burn!
IMMEDIACY - enjoy the now, the moment, the experience.
DECOMMODIFICATION - we share things for those who want them; no money changes hands.
GIFTING - FREE SKINS!!
LEAVE NO TRACE - After the Burn party is done, we clean up after ourselves!
